The magpies are all together again down on the lawn! The parents had been down there a few times during the day without the kids, but now all five are there
The three kids were wandering over the drive towards the small lawn in front of the neighbouring block, when suddenly the two crows - who haven't been down there, at least as a pair, for a couple of months - came flying round the end of the block and swooped down upon them!
The kids flew off in a panic back to the big lawn, while the crows stood around for a bit, apparently feeling pretty pleased with themselves. Then they wandered over to the lawn and started going around pecking at stuff in the grass. So both groups are now down there, ignoring one another - though I suspect the magpies are keeping one eye on the crows, in case they think up any more merry japes
I have to admit, it was very entertaining, the way the crows suddenly came out of nowhere and executed their swoop. "We're baaaack, ****ers!"
Lots going on in The Corner That Held Them this evening, from a drowning in the fish pond to a visit from the new bishop, who was not particularly impressed with what he found and proposes to interfere in the running of the convent by imposing a custos to get the financial side of things sorted out
Grey start today, and it's even supposed to be raining lightly at the moment. It isn't, or it wasn't when I poked my head out of the bedroom window a few minutes ago, but it does look as if it might start any time. The alleged mini-heatwave may not be as bad as expected though: it's 16°C and going for 24° today, then 25° tomorrow before tailing off. The barometers are up a bit at 1005/1013mB
Most importantly: Thursday!
I've got to go to the dental hygienist on Saturday afternoon, so any shopping can be done at Big Sainsbury's after that as I'll be over that side of town. Therefore, no need to go shopping tonight or tomorrow
