Sunny but with big lumps of grey-flecked fluff. Currently 14 degrees and that's the high for the day. Barometer down to 1011 mBar.

    Sunrise 05:45; Sunset 18:28

Busy morning at the coal face as all the deadlines I've been ignoring this month all come due.

      The bicycle is here!

And I didn't even fall over on the way back

Several things are very clear from the journey though, short as it was. Firstly, I really am dreadfully unfit, and it will take more than a few spins around the park to fix that - in fact, I probably couldn't make it all the way round the park right now

Secondly, I need to get rid of the washing machine I brought with me from the old flat, as it's making it very hard to fit the bike in the storeroom. Sadly, it will have to go for recycling; it's already past the manufacturer's own estimate of its lifespan, and two years and a few months of sitting in a storeroom will have done it no good

Thirdly, and probably most important: I need to recover the skill of maintaining situational awareness on the road whilst cycling. It's very different to the same skill when driving and I used to be extremely good at it, so I'm sure it'll come back. But while it's true that you never forget how to ride a bike, it seems the same isn't true if you add "safely on the road in traffic" to the end of that

I think I'll need to adjust the riding position as well. At the moment, I'm hunched over so much that I can't see anything beyond the front wheel through my glasses, and looking over the top of them isn't really good enough

Anyway, it's here now so I have no more excuses not to get started on sorting all those things out

Also, if the back of your seat is made of kevlar, it will give you a bit of protection from anyone with a gun who mistakes you for someone in a recumbent bike.
…Maybe we ain’t that young anymore

Tea has been ribeye steak with chips and beans

It wasn't a thick-cut one this time, and TBH it wasn't what I'd been thinking of having. But it looked like a really good one when I passed it in the shop, so I gave in and got it

Tonight's major motion picture premiere was Asteroid City (2023) which is… odd. Very odd, I thought. Good though

And then a rewatch of Dredd (2012) which I haven't watched in a few years. Excellent stuff; they should make more films based on 2000 A.D. stories like this

Finally, a rewatch of Life (2017). The creature design in this really is excellent, particularly in how it goes from a tiny little thing to this big muscular monster

New Monkey Life tomorrow! I'd better get to sleep so I don't miss it

                  Goodnight all

                    Morning.

                    Saturday.

                    Dry.

                    Greyish.

                    Wanly sunny.

Chilly in here at 13..5 deg, 12.5 in the kitchen, 11 in the leanto.

1018.5 mBar, 30.076 in Hg, 763.94 Torr, 14.77 psi, (up from 1015 last night), 60% RH (LIdl electric).

Meanwhile on the 6th of January 2020 there was discussion of Co-op shops & their absence from Neath, BR14 popped in to contribute, Brillo popped in, and original PM popped in too.

Walk (unabbreviated) walked in the wan sunshine and unimpressive eclipse.

                    Lunch: brunch.

Entertainment: FOOC. <click> Too much about fascists. Oh for another LHO.

Well the Freecycle thing didn't work: despite me being in here since 11:30 apparently "there was no reply" at 12:20.

Came back when I was down in the garage: still no reply that time .

                    Feckiit, can't be arsed.

Work bench turned the right way up using a step ladder and a trolley jack. Stone me that was inventive and it worked.

However getting some of Strangelove father's 6" nails out of what is now the top was remarkably problematic, having been in there for 50 or 60 years & damp with it. Got there in the end.

Knackered now, so having a cup of coffee before continuing.

                    Eclipse unimpressive.

Stone me, I'm knackered even more now. And I broke my favourite pozi bit.

Tea: soup etc. Nice enough. Too knackered for anything else.

Entertainment: PM. Something called "dough" all about mechanical high end watches.

                    Book.

The Proof is out there: more blaze bollocks: "bell" ringing rocks in Montana. Strange underwater sound from antarctica. Foo fighters. bollox about preSputnik alien satellite. Unidentified "creature" on cctv. Llama Foetus.

                      Afternoon denizens

Sunny day, though with some thin cloud. It's still a tad breezy, and getting breezier soon. Once again it's mild but not as warm as it could be, being 11°C with a high of 12° due. The barometers are bouncing back at 1009/1017mB
