There isn't much on the HMRC situation, just a that they will continue to refute the claims. But nothing on whether they are still responding to letter on behalf of 'us' their clients.

Pretty much the just of it!
I had my suspicions the App Accounting Group might shut down Boox and sell the client base to another accountancy firm.

Just saw this on their website blog - some info about this case. Only about 6 months too late.

Their home page has also changed with a message saying the investigation has caused them to have to shut down.

“The App Accounting Group is continuing to challenge HMRC, has invested heavily in professional support and will robustly pursuing (sic) the case through all possible angles”

Would be nice to get a tangible status update rather than just the rhetoric. Even if the update is inconsequential. I know they engaged BDO as advisors, initially at least.

Do you believe they are actively fighting it? I honestly don't trust anything from them.

The news that Boox is gone is not surprising, especially as they have been unresponsive for a long time.

I've been in the process of closing down my business and have not traded with them for the past year, so at least I am not affected on the day to day basis.

Some questions I do have (some that apply to myself but also for Boox clients at large):

                  - Will HMRC allow them to close?
                  - In terms of the chain of liability...my understanding is HMRC will chase the alleged MSC> The Director of Alleged MSC > the 'alleged' MSCP > the end clients...what happens if an alleged MSCP has gone?
                  - Do we think this is going to affect the appeals process (guessing yes!)
                  - If Boox had supplied the appeals letter should clients now approach HMRC to ask for any points of contact to change
                  - Why do we think that Limelight Accountancy would have taken on the Boox clients knowing the risk?
                  - Thoughts on Limelight? They have tiered pricing for various services...hmmmm?!?!?

They have not gone. Boox is a trading name of ‘the app accounting group’ (TAAG). TAAG is still an active company and looks to be trading through a different name now. I am no longer a client so didn’t get the notification about the sale or transfer or whatever is actually happening with the ‘boox’ part of TAAG. Gawd knows what these chaps have bought as presumably they do not have any clients left. Maybe some of their software? They look like the sort of outfit HMRC should have been coming after initially rather than the chartered accountants that is/were TAAG.

The HMRC correspondence refers to TAAG so it is them that is on the hook as an alleged MSCP, not ‘boox’. Presumably they would not be allowed to close were that their plan given the active case. However, given it is us that have had the determinations issued against and not TAAG, maybe they could?..

I dont see any info for this company that bought them other than the companies house records, where are you seeing them? Not that it really matters now.
