An unfortunate turn of events, indeed, and I'm afraid CK continues to shoot itself (and its clients) in the foot.
Step 1: do not pay what they're asking you to pay.
Step 2: get independent advice.Comment

I've also received a fairly arbitrary seeming request for £5800 from CK. They seem to be implying if the cash isn't fronted up then the will throw the towel in which I find very distasteful. A business that size should be able to lay it's hands on £1.5m if they need to unless they are on the verge of bankruptcy. All of which sets off enough alarm bells to mean they are not getting any more of my cash.Comment

It's very suspicious in my opinion and I would certainly not be contributing towards to their appeal, especially considering from day one they said they could not and would not represent their clients for fear of being involved.
I still see the announcements and it struck me as pay up or you are on your own.Last edited by GregRickshaw; 2 November 2022, 16:47.Comment

Any advice or suggestions as to where I should move my company management too, what I mean by this is book keeping etc, Should I just move it to my accountancy firm that looks after my other company which is in a different industry. Oh dear my head is spinning.

My advice would be to choose an accountant that works with FreeAgent or similar because they are more likely to provide a "hands off" service and FA (or similar) will make your life easier. Ideally, you would time this shortly after your company year end, but it may be better to leave sooner rather than later and take the hit on any fees paid for the current year. I would not necessarily expect good cooperation from CK if you move on, but that's life.
You could do much worse than Maslins, for example (no affiliation, but they use FA and Chris is a knowledgeable and regular poster here).Comment

I've asked for a breakdown of the liabilility calculation.
Do they include corporation and dividend tax deductions?
Their liability is actually more than what HMRC have demanded for 17/18 so I'm wanting to know why. It could be interest but I assume it would not be that much. Is this the same for others who have received them?Comment

Apparently everyone has also been hit with three years of nothing like what they received as determinations thus arriving at a vastly inflated % to fund the case.
I would think very carefully now about simply letting this play out in court and then representing yourself at a tribunal afterwards if CK lose. The amount of money they are asking for is way over the one million pounds David Kirk and others have estimated to be need, and they (DK and others) factor in amounts for appeals.
We are all innocents here and if CK weren't about to disappear with it seems clients money it would be worth us getting together to sue them.Comment

I have just found this page after receiving the message from CK to pay £5565.03 towards the appeal!
For the people who have also been asked to do this what is the general consensus - I am so unsure now of what to do and what options if I don't pay the money to CK...
Has anyone sought specialist tax advice already?
