          Th trial was a talking shop that neither dealt with the failings of the immigration services or the counter terrorism organisation. His family got a few quid hush money and a grudging apology, of course if he hadn't been here illegally he might not have been mistaken as a terrorist.

          Within days it was obvious they had got the wrong man, they dragged it out for years and the guilty weren't sacked.
          He wasn't here illegally. That was one of the lies the powers that be used to try to fool people into thinking there was something dodgy about him.

                    No, if he was working on some other visa than a working visa, then he may have been working illegally; this could be deliberate or could be a mistake on the part of him or the immigration authorities. Either way, it doesn't mean he was 'illegal' as he had a visa to be in the country legally.
