    This video may offer some insight. It only gained traction in the last couple of weeks but was published on 14th November. Back then, it would have been easy to dismiss the content as conspiracy theories but with all the actions taken in recent weeks, it's becoming harder to ignore the parallels with many of the actions taken by the new administration:

        The deal has already been done, US starves Ukraine of any further arms/cash, releases sanctions on Russia, eventually Putin and Donny split Ukraine's mineral wealth.

        I look forward to your all knowing and likely sarcastic and unhelpful reply.

            oh so you think Zelenski will win and Putin won't just lose it then go nuclear or similar.

            Of course the EU countries can send a couple of Guide groups to sort him out?

            You ar making Saddo look sensible.

              The whole thing is predicated on two concerns;

              1. Putin is aiming to restore the old USSR as far as he can. Once Ukraine is done, he will move on, probably to the Baltic

              2. Equally, Putin fears (or at least, has told Russia to fear) that the UN is not merely a defensive force but an aggressive one, and if Ukraine joins then there is (according to Putin) a serious risk they will try to retake the Crimea and the Donbas.

              Trump is risking a hell of a lot by ignoring those factors. Appeasing Putin will backfire spectacularly.

                Agree with malvolio. I can understand that Putin may see any advance of Nato as a threat and no harm in trying to reach an agreement, but probably just a waste of time, his intentions go beyond that. As for Trump, facts do not seem to fit in his head. Think the BBC summarises it well:

                Fact-checking Donald Trump's claims about war in Ukraine - BBC News

                Just take the last point that Zelensky is a dictator. Postponement of an election during a war is totally sensible and was agreed by all parties, a government has much greater priorities.

                Trump is an utter loony, not fit for office. Maybe he does have dementia.

                      On the cost of defence spending I wonder what soldiers do when they are not training. Maybe we should combine the army, police, fire brigades etc so they do something useful the rest of the time.
