Contractor to SaudiArabia relocation cost expenses ?

Hello All ,

I'm talking with a company in Saudi Arabia about a contractor job. We agreed on the pay, but they won’t help with relocation costs. I’ve heard many companies give around 10K GBP to help with moving, especially to places like Saudi Arabia or Qatar.

Also, they said I have to wait 45 days to get my first pay.

Do you think I should ask them to help with moving costs? And is waiting 45 days for pay regular? as they ignored it and said no relocation monies ,I should manage by my self

Hi Cojak, many thanks for your reply,I just edited the post, actually, they are not willing to pay any relocation cost,this is why am asking , as most of the companies paying a minimum 10KGBP , but this company saying contractors should handle all the cost,which is not cost especially going to the middle of nowhere really

Haven't you, er, answered your own question, then? If you're looking for moral support, you may not get it here, probably not even in the professional forums

Seems to me that you have two choices: accept the terms or, as contractors are sometimes inclined to do, negotiate better ones. I tend to agree with your erstwhile client though, that your moving expenses are none of their concern. If you're that important to them, then you will have the leverage needed to build any such expenses into whatever T&M rate or fixed price you have proposed to complete the work or, indeed, for them to pay your expenses, but there seems to be evidence to the contrary...

You are a contractor. This sort of stuff is on the contractor.
You have no chance unless you are that important to them.
You get what you negotiate.
Will you be asking them for £10k to move back afterwards?
Its a contract. Pick a hotel you like and negotiate on room rate. Most hoteliers will discount big on big bookings 100 nights a pop.
I did European contracting for years. Mon-Fri commuting. 4 nights/week, booking hotels 12 weeks to start. Very easily saw big reductions on £100/night+ rooms. 30% or more. Got a 50% reduction for booking for a year and guaranteeing 46 weeks in Dublin.
That £10k is probably for permies and then they usually expect you stay for > 3 years or pay it back if sooner.

What's the schedule of payments after the initial one? what if you move, do some work and realise they've not paid you after 45 days? Is this a job via an agency? I'm actually surprised they would want anyone from Europe as they have loads of people available closer which don't have these dilemmas.
