Obvious trouble with the death penalty is that wrongly convicted people have no chance of escape. Coincidences happen and convictions are rarely 100% reliable. "Beyond reasonable doubt" is not absolute certainty.

Rather than the death penalty, couldn’t we send them all to the Isle of Man and leave them to fend for themselves. Just need to set up a couple of patrol boats to stop them escaping. Many criminals already have bases there (Cojak has a list on another part of the forum), and it’s been used in the past as an internment camp when the Allies were fighting the Nazis.
