Some have identified that the cost of lifetime incarceration is a problem.

Would it be acceptable to put prisoners into a long-term suspended animation state, similar to the sort of thing that will be needed for long distance space travel?

Which part of your idea has rehabilitation in it?

It's not really an idea, more just extending the interesting discussion.

Someone concerned with the cost of prison may propose a 20 year sentence could be 18 years suspended state and 2 years rehabilitation perhaps?

Why should a criminal live longer - assuming suspended animation delays aging.

It's not like this is an English dissertation.

Obvious trouble with the death penalty is that wrongly convicted people have no chance of escape. Coincidences happen and convictions are rarely 100% reliable. "Beyond reasonable doubt" is not absolute certainty.

Rather than the death penalty, couldn’t we send them all to the Isle of Man and leave them to fend for themselves. Just need to set up a couple of patrol boats to stop them escaping. Many criminals already have bases there (Cojak has a list on another part of the forum), and it’s been used in the past as an internment camp when the Allies were fighting the Nazis.
