THe government won't call a GE now, of course, because they would be wiped out. Seems to me there should be some sort of mechanism outside of the control of the current government for situations like this - some kind of national level recall petition. It is absurd that a government without a mandate and with virtually no support across the country can hang on to power for another two years. The only comparable in my life time I can think of is Major, but at least he was elected and notionally had some sort of mandate at least initially.Comment

The Monarch can also intervene as that sort of exceptional interference but seems very unlikely.Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment

England would still be England since neither Scotland nor NI are part of England. When Labour win they won't allow the Scots a referendum and the division will be less anyway since SNP/Labour have much more in common. SNP would be best off hoping the Tories win the next GE.
A unified Ireland sounds a great idea.Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.Comment

The arithmetic in Ireland is headed that way, and they can hold a referendum if they can get it through their assembly. The only obstacle to that is the DUP actually stopping the assembly from sitting.Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.Comment

It's time to call in the big guns! General Election NOW, we need Corbyn for a mess this magnitude.
