Can't see her resigning .... she'll need to be pushed out. But then who takes over?

One Tory MP has said the voting for a new PM should be MPs only ... got to say, I totally agree. The MPs have been voted in to run the country (yes, I see the irony of me saying that) so they should be allowed to appoint the leader that they think will best deliver the agenda.

Members had their say in the general election, I don't see why a small minority of the UK then gets to pick the PM.

Same goes for Labour and their members ... should be Labour MPs who select their leader too.

I was thinking the other day that the votes are backwards.

Members in a party should shorten the list to the top few candidates.

MPs in that party should choose out of those top few candidates as they have to be led and work with them.

So what role does the Party have? I don't disagree with the principle but each party can make up its own rules how it appoints leaders and that's their business.

I think the logic is that MPs have the direct ear of their constituents so have a greater idea of what will wash with the public than the party membership, who are often the more radical end (in either direction) of the electorate.

I was discussing with HWMBO last night as I too was annoyed at MPs overriding the will of the membership.

However, if as SE suggests, the process was flipped - membership shortlists the top x candidates and then the MPs vote for the leader then that still involves them but also limits the damage that could be done by selecting someone bonkers.

I've never been so glad - and I guess others are too - that Corbyn was only the opposition leader.

Hopefully after this political parties are more careful with how they run leadership elections.
