Why do they need to tax on mileage when they can easily track exactly how much 'fuel' you are putting in an EV at the 'pump' like with petrol?

Indeed the whole "electric car, renewable energy" is built on a fantasy. In my view it will drive fossil fuel consumption as more energy will be required to build and maintain what is in effect a redundant infrastructure.

No one has solved the battery recycle problem even on lead acid, its nasty.

Hydrogen is a near drop in replacement for gasoline/Derv JCB have proven that.

Urea treatment for diesels (Ad-Blu etc) is retrofittable as are catalytic converters on most none carburettor cars.

Frankly they would be better encouraging retrofit on large, premium or classic vehicles and funding by tax a Landrover with Ad Blu pays say £100 less tax a year so breaks even in say 5 years.

The reduce bit in reduce, reuse and recycle is all about making less.

20 year old cars could and should be environmentally friendly.

You are perhaps unaware the scale of wind development. I know I was. It's immense and accelerating.

Shall I pre-empt the retort "good luck driving when it's not windy" or do you want to do it?

Quite right but I think the moment it becomes financially rewarding, this problem will be solved. The 'market' for old EV batteries is set to explode which means the profits to be made will be gigantic.

That depends on where you charge up. If you have a charging point at home, there's no easy way to distinguish between the car and your freezer.

I reckon they will tax motorists on annual mileage when most people have shifted to electricity. It will be just easier to record the mileage at the MOT and this information is sent to DVLA and your road tax will increase accordingly. New cars will have it front loaded with a car tax increase on purchase.

But you're still paying for the electricity.

I'd check for which one has more wheels.
