    Heard this being bleated about on the radio this morning. No idea why it's being presented as a surprise when anyone with an ounce of common sense could see it coming a mile off (even if you can't hear the damn things).

      I absolutely agree with you. I also suspect that electric cars will need to have a smart meter fitted so that HMG can debit the owner's bank account on a monthly basis.

              The other day due to the energy price rises I heard someone on the radio moan that it would be cheaper to use the 1 litre car in their household than to charge their Tesla.

                    Absolutely this. The environmental footprint of an older car was (quite obviously) spent years ago.

                    Aside from the gf's Mini, all our cars are over 20 years old so I feel I'm doing my bit for the climate by not buying a new car every few years.

                    They are more fun to drive too.
