Doubt it. Cameron didn't think twice about putting Brexit to a referendum which turned out to be political suicide. May did think twice about Hinckley point, but went ahead anyway. It seems the propensity of politicians to do stupid things hasn't decreased.

No, but when large % of UK people don't even know what EU is, a referendum on that is a joke. You don't really think he did it for the people, do you?

There is a difference between what people say they want and what they actually want.

Bernie Madoff's investors for example said they wanted to invest in his fund, so he obliged, but they didn't necessarily get what they wanted.
