Cameron knew the people wanted it. He maybe assumed (incorrectly) that the EU would give a bit. It didn't.

    Assumption plus arrogance. Bingo.

A politician sticking to his promise, even to the point of personal loss, shouldn't be criticised TOO much

Why? He actually did what people wanted as opposed to what politicians and the elite wanted.

Is your idea of democracy to stifle democracy? Exactly what the rest of the EU elite are doing.

You can't stop freedom of speech just because you might not like what is said.

No, but when large % of UK people don't even know what EU is, a referendum on that is a joke. You don't really think he did it for the people, do you?
Hadn't he promised it and the as.shole farage would have stolen large % of the tori electorate.

There is a difference between what people say they want and what they actually want.

Bernie Madoff's investors for example said they wanted to invest in his fund, so he obliged, but they didn't necessarily get what they wanted.

We will see whether the Brexit voters actually get what they want.

              I'm alright Jack

Hubbys company (Capital Group) are probably well chuffed, a firm they have a 10% stake in (Schneider Electric) has got a major contract at Hinckley

Half his party and half the Labour party wanted it. Look at who voted to leave.

You know that Guy Fawkes was part of a conspiracy to place a Catholic monarch on the throne, so that England would be back under the control of the Pope Paul V, over in Europe?

You raise a valid point (well the first one anyway).
