And this phenomenon comes about because big business can force wages down by ensuring a ready supply of desperate candidates from eastern europe and the indian sub-continent mainly. No wonder they don't want to Leave the EU. But the alternative would be to have someone like you doing an important job. What is needed is a 10 year focus on driving up skills for the younger generation while your ilk declines into old age and alcoholism, so that we are then ready to compete internationally with our domestic workforce.Originally posted by shaunbhoy View PostAnd this phenomenon comes about because big business can force wages down by ensuring a ready supply of desperate candidates from eastern europe and the indian sub-continent mainly. So you think that M&S, BP, Aviva, Goldman Sachs, IBM, ING, GE are receiving applications from Polish etc graduates that compete with our own graduates do you?Originally posted by SueEllen View PostThe middle classes are competing with those from Europe as you put it.
Being middle class in the UK isn't based solely on income like in the US. So you get plumbers and footballers earning far more than teachers and civil servants, but the former aren't considered middle class.

Well if I weren't already doing an important job then there would be no need for my replacements to "drive up" their skills to usurp me, would there?Originally posted by Old Greg View PostBut the alternative would be to have someone like you doing an important job. Haven't really thought your point through have you? What does the Grauniad have to say about it? Do tell!

The "ready supply of desperate candidates from eastern europe and the indian sub-continent" are doing these important jobs. It is critical that we increase the domestic skill-base so you don't have to fill any of them. But I wouldn't expect you to grasp that.Originally posted by shaunbhoy View PostWell if I weren't already doing an important job then there would be no need for my replacements to "drive up" their skills to usurp me, would there?

You seem to think the Uk should have an open border with Ireland and you seem pretty intent on sneering at the concept of border control. So I am just checking whether you are nothing more than a protesting wailer or whether you have a serious argument.Originally posted by Old Greg View PostWhy are you asking me?Let us not forget EU open doors immigration benefits IT contractors more than anyoneComment
