Seriously? An "out" vote won't even mean "out" if the people (remember, corporations are people) who really count decide it's against their interests. And if they decide to play along, there'll be a lot of work to be done to ensure they somehow make even more money out of us than by staying in - which is the only reason they'll decide to play along.
You didn't really believe a Conservative government would allow the opinions of ordinary people to count for anything important, did you?
It would be absolute suicide for the government to ignore the referendum result... they might as well just not bother campaigning in 2020.
So, replace "UK" with "Scotland" and "Europe" with "UK". It's the same story. Small part thinks it's better than it really is and wants to quit. It relies on emotion rather than logic in its arguments. Bigger part doesn't care too much but is getting sick and tired of the whinging.
Same story, same results. The smaller part is better off being part of the group.
Well given the people in Scotland who back leaving the UK tend to believe Scotland should be part of the EU, I don't think it quite lines up that way.
The reasons for wanting to separate from the UK are more about self-determination rather than random ranting about bananas and made-up nonsense about Westminster being prevented from running Britain properly due to faceless Eurocrats or being overwhelmed by Polish plumbers.

Oh, they're cunning. They'll string it along, make it seem like something's happening. "These things can't be rushed… need to take the time to ensure we get the best deal for hard-working families in the UK." But you'll get jack tulip until they're making money from you for doing it.
Once again, those great lines of Mr Zappa's: "They just look after Number One, and Number One ain't you. You ain't even Number Two."
If there is an "out" vote even though the government recommended an "in", Cameron has to resign, and whoever takes over will have to get enough parliamentary votes to take the UK out of the EU with all the opposition and half of the conservative MP's against it. I somehow doubt this is going to happen. It'll just mean months or political wrangling.
To leave the EU you need a government with a solid majority and a plan to leave that got voted in on leaving the EU.
At best an out vote is the begining of the beginning of the end.

It would.
You can also bet that Big Business in the form of the CBI and others will come out in favour of staying in and that they will play the "threat to UK jobs" card in the process. "Increase our costs and we'll have to cut jobs."
Will BMW, or Honda or other foreign owned firms keep production in the UK if we leave and it costs them more to sell into Europe as a result? Or will they move production to where they can produce most cost effectively?
Over 50% of UK Exports come directly from manufacturing and manufacturing employs 2.6 million people. Stick 20% import taxes on sales into the EU those and that will take a major hit.
