We were never against that, in fact we helped draft it and submitted recommendations on it. Specifically :

Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2015/2440 of 22 October 2015 establishing a discard plan for certain demersal fisheries in the North Sea and in Union waters of ICES Division IIa

        EUR-Lex - 32015R2440 - EN - EUR-Lex

Belgium, Denmark, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Sweden and the United Kingdom have a direct fisheries management interest in the North Sea. Those Member States have submitted a joint recommendation to the Commission after having consulted the North Sea Advisory Council and the Long Distance Advisory Council. Scientific contribution was obtained from relevant scientific bodies and reviewed by the Scientific, Technical and Economic Committee for Fisheries (STECF). The measures included in the joint recommendation comply with Article 18(3) of Regulation (EU) No 1380/2013.
It wasn't forced on us, we actively encouraged it.

It's political theatre for the benefit of the terrified middle Englanders that he wants to keep onside, and distract from the fact that Georges management of the economy is rapidly unravelling.
Yup, though given he's supposedly in favour of staying in the EU it's a rather strange strategy. I'm just surprised this kind of naked pandering still plays in the 21st century.

I seem to recall there was some contention in Scotland, but the fact is without the common fisheries policy there would be little to do about other nations fishing your waters short of sinking their ships. Yet another thing that would make leaving the EU a bit tricky, but maybe war with Spain would be fun?

This is just too good an opportunity to miss. Call Cameron's bluff. Hence 'OUT' it is.

I'm pretty sure Spoonface has never stated that a "NO" majority would be binding on the Government to actually leave the EU.

In practice, it would simply give them a stronger mandate for re-negotiations, after which there would presumably be another referendum.

It's the democratic EU way, as in Ireland for example - You keep voting until you get it right!

So seriously, that's all the more reason for waverers to vote NO - We'd probably still stay in the EU, and you'll be strengthening the UK's bargaining position!
