Exactly this. I'm mid-50s, most of the 'younger' contractors I know are around 40-45. Many of the older ones have indeed gone perm in last couple of years or are gradually retiring early or winding down.
I know plenty of those younger ones who are still getting contracts without long breaks but they tend to be in non-IT dev roles. Once you hit early 50s, it seems to get that much harder. There's no getting around it.MarriedComment

A.I is really hitting lower to mid level development roles.
Youll need to be a Python expert with an MBA or C++ with a PhD and nothing below it if this keeps up.

If you are paying someone to monitor the controls and be qualified to take over in an emergency then you might as well pay a train driver.
As for the tube, Singapore has a complex underground with no drivers. The trains even check themselves in for maintenance and repairs.Blog? What blog...?Comment

Which is mainly cos of a divorce and still have a mortgage to pay. Otherwise I would be out of this game now.Comment

The frustrating thing about this is that I'm seeing roles advertised but the vast majority are inside, but without any real increase to compensate for that. In fact some of the rates are just taking the piss.
=== Edit:
Just checking my RSS feeds now, for May I have 702 outside, 122 inside.
