So I can speak with some authority, having owned more than one Range Rover and numerous Jaguars.Originally posted by Platypus View PostIIRC you used to have aflame-orangeVesuvius Red Range Rover?

My point being it's not just JLR who are moving production to Eastern Europe (where it's currently cheaper) it's the German giants as well (for the same reason). Regrettably, "Assembled by Bulgarians" doesn't have quite the same ring to it as "Assembled by Germans". Thankfully the EU have a smokescreen solution - "Assembled in the EU" so that no-one has the faintest idea where their £50k automobile was assembled, and presumes because of the badge that it was in fact Germany.Originally posted by darmstadt View PostWhat's that list got to do with anything? If you look at the car's VIN or even inside them it will say where they were built...Then again I presume it'll soon be 'Made in the UK' for all Commonwealth manufactured products. In fact, a 'Made in...' means bollocks as unless all the components were sourced from the same country then it's only 'Assembled in...'
I only make that point because my German assembled Bosch washer/dryer lasted 11 years, and my Romanian assembled Bosch will have lasted a little less that 3 when its bearings finally give up the ghost in the next month or so. And that's why we won't be buying a Bosch next time. Because an economy built on smoke and mirrors will only last as long as it takes everyone to realise it's all smoke and mirrors. You can only charge Western prices for Eastern quality for so long, or as Abe Lincoln put it "You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time."His heart is in the right place - shame we can't say the same about his brain...Comment

So there you go again, production moving to Eastern Europe there is absolutely no evidence of shrinking manufacturing in either Germany or the UK. Germany manufactured 6 million cars in Germany last year, the UK manufactured 2 million cars in the UK.Originally posted by Mordac View PostMy point being it's not just JLR who are moving production to Eastern Europe (where it's currently cheaper) it's the German giants as well (for the same reason). I remember people said IT jobs were moving to India and since then the number of jobs in the UK in IT has mushroomed.
Just all based on complete nonsense.I'm alright JackComment

Landies are very reliable. If they were not, people wouldn't use them to drive around the world. True, they also use Toyotas too now, but the Landy is still he choice for many for that overland trip.Originally posted by Zigenare View Post
No, they are not decent. They're unreliable, incredibly expensive to maintain, and they're wasteful.I am what I drink, and I'm a bitter man

My next choice will be a Range Rover if the potholes round here get any worse. Anything else will be written off within a mile. I'll make sure it's a V8 though, just to really piss off the LibDem/Green Party coalition council...Originally posted by Zigenare View Post

If you want to go into the desert, take a land rover, if you want to come back out, take a land cruiserComment
