Ctd....
It looks as though this situation will go on for years without a final resolution. With this in mind, does it mean the money I begged and borrowed to pay for a CTD will be stuck in the hands of HRMC until the end ??SAY NO TO RETROSPECTIVE TAXComment

I'm not planning on getting a CTD as I don't trust the government/HMRC. If they can retrospectively change one set of rules, why couldn't they announce that all money in CTDs dating back to whenever now belongs to them, passing the legislation when there is something more 'newsworthy' for it to hide behind?Comment

can I ask how long were you with montpelier? how much do you owe ballpark? can you pay? have you got a CTD?. Sorry for the delay. I was with Montpelier from 2001 - 2005. I can just about afford the worst scenario though it'll put me on the brink. For that reason I've decided not to get a CTD. I have an offset mortgage, and I've put my money into that. It'll save me more than I'd make on a CTD. I suspect that if we were to lose, I'd be slightly worse off, but not much and maybe not at all seeing as my mortgage company haven't been too great at passing on the interest rate cuts. Added to that, it can't be taxed! I'll owe just into 6 figures. On principle, I refuse to put any money into their hands that they not be entitled to. If we lose, I'll pay up, until then, it's mine.

actually the more I think of it, the more I reckon they are trying to f**k the country into the middle of next week to make sure the tories only get one term, because the only way out of this mess will be enormous cuts in government expenditure, massively unpopular ( in the court of public opinion... )Comment

Shetland = No Tax
We could all move to Shetland (North of Scotland) where, it would appear, HMRC have no authority to collect tax.
This is worth reading:

HMRC appear to accept that if you live on Shetland you DO NOT have to pay tax!
There's an elephant wondering around here...Comment
