You don't need FOI to obtain information in favour of HMRC. They are quite happy to give you this, even if you don't ask for it.

FOI is a way of getting the stuff they don't want you to know. Let me give you an example.

Last year we asked (not through FOI) for stats on the number of returns under enquiry from 2001/2 to 2005/6. The response we got was that they don't hold such information and it would be too costly to obtain it.

In January this year we requested the exact same information through FOI. And hey presto, 4 weeks later we got a report containing all the figures.

          HMRC must really hate FOI.

Welcome! We know that this thread is read by many more people than those that contribute but every time someone de-lurks it provides us all with affirmation not only that we are in the right but also that as a group we will win.

I reckon we should form a new organisation to fight the battle.

We could call ourselves the "Real PCG".

                    Aw. little bit of politics.

Yeah - it seemed a bit too much of a coincidence that DR had continued his sterling work in dragging this info out of HMRC and then we get an update from MP saying they've done the very same thing.
At the same time, it's a little worrying. Maybe the case for the JR really wasn't strong enough for that Judge to allow it into court.
I just hope this info helps us. Nice one DR.
