Nothing stopping us have a separate one for that.Originally posted by BrilloPad View PostWhat about a petition against retrospective legislation? That we would get support of PCG, accountants, etcetc.
The reason for having one just for S58 is not so much achieving the highest number of votes but so we have got our grievance on the public record. This could come in useful when contacting MPs etc.Comment

I signed the old anti road pricing one but I can't remember how public your name is when you sign one of these. I'm favour in principle and I know Hector already knows who we are but I'm not keen to advertise more widely. Prefer to stay hidden under my little rock as much as I can.....Originally posted by DonkeyRhubarb View PostNothing stopping us have a separate one for that.

Nice one, I'm sure that all banks do stuff like this all the time - given most of my clientco for last 20 years have been US banks I see this legal entity sweeping money around all the time - it's one of the things that annoys me as they always seem to be able to plan any way they like but Hector gets p1ssy with us "little people".....should be same rules for all....maybe Lloyds were sailing closer to the wind or something - I never worked for them.Originally posted by PurpleTurtle View PostI only picked up the Guardian on Saturday to have a look through the Guide arts & leisure section, but this story caught my eye in Business:

One in the eye for Hector it would seem, and did make me
considering Lloyds recent ownership issues.

Petition
I have been persuaded that it may not be a good idea.
No 10 could post a comment on it to spin it against us, ie. we deserve what we get. Someone could even start an opposing petition for s58 to stand which might get more popular support.
Once you start the petition you've got no control over it, so it is risky.Comment

Have to agree. Similarly to the press idea, at the most basic level we have been avoiding tax. Quite legally and we're far from the worst offenders but to the general public our case isn't terribly compelling.Originally posted by DonkeyRhubarb View PostI have been persuaded that it may not be a good idea.

We will win by persuading those with influence - MPs - and in the law courts. The 'court of public opinion', whatever that might be, will I'm afraid be quite unsympathetic.Comment
