Please let us know what response you get.

What years were you with montpelier? 2001 to 2007
[Are you still with them? No, but I am appealing through them
What is your ballpark exposure? Enough that we have the house up for sale...
Can you pay? No, not all of it
Have you purchased a CTD? Yes, with savings and loans from family

      Ctd....

It looks as though this situation will go on for years without a final resolution. With this in mind, does it mean the money I begged and borrowed to pay for a CTD will be stuck in the hands of HRMC until the end ??

Are you going to get a better rate of return elsewhere at the moment?

Situation could be from Kafka, where the threat is always hanging over you.

I'm not planning on getting a CTD as I don't trust the government/HMRC. If they can retrospectively change one set of rules, why couldn't they announce that all money in CTDs dating back to whenever now belongs to them, passing the legislation when there is something more 'newsworthy' for it to hide behind?

Yeah i agree, i just trust anything the govt does now, all money is invested in shares worth nothing, the only way i would ever have the money is to sell the house, so im just going to sit tight and wait n see, been through the years of stress with 2 year IR35 audit so, nothing new to me now, used to the gray hairs and back handedness this govt does.
When is comes to the HMRC and Gordy. Im a fighter not a lover

And if you keep it in certain banks remember that is also the government they could take that too.....or maybe if you put notes under the mattress and they "quantatively ease" enough it will also be subject to massive inflation thereby rendering that worthless - any way you look at it they could mess it up for you.

can I ask how long were you with montpelier? how much do you owe ballpark? can you pay? have you got a CTD?
Hi BP . Sorry for the delay. I was with Montpelier from 2001 - 2005. I can just about afford the worst scenario though it'll put me on the brink. For that reason I've decided not to get a CTD. I have an offset mortgage, and I've put my money into that. It'll save me more than I'd make on a CTD. I suspect that if we were to lose, I'd be slightly worse off, but not much and maybe not at all seeing as my mortgage company haven't been too great at passing on the interest rate cuts. Added to that, it can't be taxed! I'll owe just into 6 figures. On principle, I refuse to put any money into their hands that they not be entitled to. If we lose, I'll pay up, until then, it's mine.

of course a bit of Zimbabwe/Weimark style hyper-inflation would also render the debt worthless.. go for it zanu-labour,

actually the more I think of it, the more I reckon they are trying to f**k the country into the middle of next week to make sure the tories only get one term, because the only way out of this mess will be enormous cuts in government expenditure, massively unpopular ( in the court of public opinion... )

Maggie got a second term. The question is who the Torys will start a war with once they get in. I fancy a war with France.....

                      Shetland = No Tax

We could all move to Shetland (North of Scotland) where, it would appear, HMRC have no authority to collect tax.

                      This is worth reading:

HMRC appear to accept that if you live on Shetland you DO NOT have to pay tax!
There's an elephant wondering around here...
