That was my point. We're raising a generation who only want to exist in their own little bubble and who will ignore - or have hysterical reactions to - anything that doesn't align to their world view. And, sadly, they aren't being well enough educated to form a sensible world view.
But then I'm a miserable old, well-educated duffer who reads a lot

Many times over the years since that film came out I have had cause to say it was a documentary not entertainmentOriginally posted by woody1 View PostWho needs to think when you've got a phone to do it for you.
That film Idiocracy may well turn out to be all too prophetic.

The modern world is all about what to think and not how to think. Influencing is important to enforce the sh*te our superiors wish to infuse our minds with.

Sadly I get the impression that the latter are in the majority. We seem to be moving to a world where we are outsourcing critical assessment.

Indeed. I was half listening to someone on the wireless this very day talking about the Death of Print and Reading.Originally posted by SimonMac View PostThe government needs to engage with the public, you might need a new paper advert or a party political broadcast on the wireless, young people today need to be engaged in a way that is engaging to them.

Back in the day we had public information campaigns with government commissioning films, adverts and posters to get various messages across. Influencers are just the modern equivalent.

Influenced by Government
I see government's role as managing national interests, ensuring the provision of essential affordable pubic services, etc.
So am I alone in not wanting to be influenced by Government?
I'd rather have government influenced by the electorate - but that doesn't seem to be the way of things.
