I don't think our esteemed suity knows anything about TLS. His secure websites normally require a manual passport check.

so don't use those banks.Originally posted by SueEllen View Post
Some banks don't let you log in if you don't have their app.

The push for the app is for a "government in your pocket" service. Push notifications about when your MOT is due, instant access to DWP etc etc. The journey is supposed to be slicker because the app will know things about you and tailor your experience and make the filling out of forms easier.
The UK is behind many other countries in this regard, with the Ukraine's DIIA app streets ahead.
Losing your phone nowadays is a big pain, but so is losing your wallet. Neuralink implants will connect you directly to starlink so you can ditch the smartphone in a few years. Pay for things instantly with your central bank digital currency and have your speeding fines deducted in real time.

I use websites, just not on a 'phone.
I hate using a phone for anything other than Phoning/texting*.
I also don't trust their security, and HATE the fact that apps don't terminate when told to and try to decide what i want and when.
spotty little oik webdevs do NOT make my decisions for me.
*don't like trying to communicate on a piddly little keyboard either.
rant over, move along, nothing to see here etc.............

Also web apps do run on phones too. And the phone browser can remember your password and fill in forms for you too, just like on desktop, which is not consistently done accross apps.Originally posted by Protagoras View Post
+1. There seems to be a major push towards Apps for everything.
For most things, I much prefer the larger screen and proper keyboard rather than using a phone. The smartphone is in danger of becoming a real liability if lost / stolen and one has too much information accessible via it.
I limit the number of Apps on my phone to those that I use regularly. Even then, I still refuse to use supermarket discount 'loyalty' Apps and prefer a card.
Disclosure: certified old git.
Even thinking of removing my banking app from my phone - too many stories of people getting phones stolen and then bank accounts accessed after.

Maybe I'm an old git too but I mostly agree. Why does something need to be an "app" when a web app that is more sandboxed would do?
