I don't think our esteemed suity knows anything about TLS. His secure websites normally require a manual passport check.

Don’t worry though, as with everything Civil Service there is plenty of level of assurance of governance to stop Suity doing what he does best

The push for the app is for a "government in your pocket" service. Push notifications about when your MOT is due, instant access to DWP etc etc. The journey is supposed to be slicker because the app will know things about you and tailor your experience and make the filling out of forms easier.

The UK is behind many other countries in this regard, with the Ukraine's DIIA app streets ahead.

Losing your phone nowadays is a big pain, but so is losing your wallet. Neuralink implants will connect you directly to starlink so you can ditch the smartphone in a few years. Pay for things instantly with your central bank digital currency and have your speeding fines deducted in real time.

spotty little oik webdevs do NOT make my decisions for me.

*don't like trying to communicate on a piddly little keyboard either.

I limit the number of Apps on my phone to those that I use regularly. Even then, I still refuse to use supermarket discount 'loyalty' Apps and prefer a card.

Also web apps do run on phones too. And the phone browser can remember your password and fill in forms for you too, just like on desktop, which is not consistently done accross apps.

Even thinking of removing my banking app from my phone - too many stories of people getting phones stolen and then bank accounts accessed after.
