we went down there in a friend's kay en, it performed very well

we had fantastic weather by the way, and Katchberg is very easy to get to, just past Salzburg and not far from the motorway

It you want somewhere a bit closer, but not Schladming/Zell/Mayerhofen, take a look at Mulbach in the Hochkonig region. There's a great little restaurant, the Pauss Bauer where they do very nice evening meals then give you a sledge to go down the road back into town. Thankfully the local drivers are well aware and give you enough room.
