Well if you've got north of £100K to buy an e-type £1.50 litre is giggle money.

Long long ago, just after the first oil crisis when a gallon (remember them?) had reached the dizzying heights of 50p*, I recall seeing a lovely BRG V12 E type for sale at £1500.
Then I recalled that I earned about £1600 a year back then, fixing tellies for a living.
I wonder who's running it now.
And if they've found someone who knows how to fettle the carbs. .
*Twas a shock: 4/6d a gallon in the mid 1960s.Last edited by DoctorStrangelove; 9 December 2024, 16:04.

Well I've had a few.
XJS was the first, I'd still have it if someone hadn't twisted the chassis on the Harlow exit of the M11.
Few XJ40s, late Sovs were amongst the best
Few X300s, including an XJR. Up till the XK best grins/£
Skipped the x308 (My dad has a 3.2 tho)
Had a X350 4.2 N/a from 50K miles to 130K miles. Nothing major, anything that did go wrong was easily fixable (although you do need to get your head around SDD)
Currently have a 3l Sportbrake, first Diesel, surprising turn of speed and very comfy. Gets used on long hauls and tip runs.
And a 50K mile XK 5l, portfolio spec.
I've had plenty of other motors BMWs, Mercs and a few Audis but none of them hit the sweet spot of driving pleasure in quiet the same way.

I too had a V12 XJS in 1986 - I loved it!
My Jaguar history comprises an XJS, an old XJ6 (bought for £1200 and then had £20k spent on it) and now a 2018 XJ (Total engine rebuild including 2 new turbos £13k)
When they're running they're great, fast, short of a Bentley I'd say one of the most comfortable cars you can buy - my current XJ has had ~12 months trouble free, must be about due for something to go wrong sometime soon.Last edited by Zigenare; 6 December 2024, 19:34.

Though where you'd find someone who knows how to balance the 4 carbs on the E type is a dilema.

Well, I've had a 5.3 V12 XJS and verses my 5.0 V8 XK, no contest. XK is 'just right' all the time, XJS was only 'right' at full chat.

Whatcha talking about Willis?
Their target market from their advertising seems to be 20s 'creatives', it is a £250k huge car with a broken legacy and two doors. Will it be a hit?

Its 2 door! So there you are as a billionaire and the kids have to climb in the back. Get a Range Rover etc.
First "Jaguar house" in France not LA/China? Are the French rich now?
They reckon it will be 80% none repeat customers Who is spending a quarter of a million on this when there are much nicer cars.
You might be able to drive something a little like this in 2026.
Lets have an updated electric E-Type!!!!!!
