Maybe MPs like Diane Abbott, Theresa May, Wes Streeting and Sajid Javid should take legal action rather than the likes of IDS. Though I suspect they know that abuse because of their sex, ethnicity, sexuality and/or religion is part of the course of being in the public eye.

Which pieces have I missed? Several days of court time and expense were spent on a frivolous case. I'll leave it up to you to read the 19 point summary, or the 20 page judgement.

"Radical Haslam made a speech in which they addressed the impact of Conservative welfare reforms on child poverty and homelessness, the lack of action on climate change and the defunding of the NHS and the impact this had on ordinary people lives. They concluded by saying ‘shame on you, Tory scum’. Ruth Wood continued to beat the drum she had with her at the original protest and saying ‘Tory scum’."

"On 15th November 2022, following a two day trial in Manchester Magistrates Court, the Chief Magistrate of England and Wales found the defendants not guilty... and the prosecution had not proved beyond reasonable doubt that it would be proportionate to criminalise their words."

"On 5th December 2022, the Crown Prosecution Service applied for the Chief Magistrate to ‘state a case’ for the opinion of the High Court. "

"Following written submissions on behalf of the defendants, the Judge refused to state a case on the basis that the application was ‘frivolous’. He set out his reasons for refusing, including that the Crown sought to rely on ‘cherry picked’ features of the evidence and submissions which had not been made at trial, that they had failed to identify which findings of fact had been made without evidence and that the true nature of the Crown’s challenge was simply that they disagreed with the verdict."

    It's Case No: CO/763/2023 AC-2022-LON-000887

Is this what the far right consider an acceptable way to blow money, because they are too daft and too flakey?

IDS should be made to repay all costs.

There was the story the other week of Tory MP Bob Stewart, who was found guilty of racism after telling a chap called Sayed Ahmed Alwadaei to “Go away, I hate you. You make a lot of fuss. Go back to Bahrain.”

So could it have been the case that, had the protestors in the Iain Duncan Smith case, instead of calling him "scum" had said to him “Go away, I hate you. You make a lot of fuss. Go back to Chingford.”, that they would similarly have been guilty of an offence?
Bob Stewart wanted someone who was fighting for human rights to “go back to Bahrain” because Bob hated them - why do Tories hate human rights, what’s wrong with wanting people to live without the threat of violence?

Perhaps if the protestor had said “go back to Germany, you Saxon scum”, rather than Chingford, that might have been a different matter.
If all those of Saxon descent went back to Saxony, and all those from Norman descent went back to France, and all those from Viking descent went back to Scandinavia, then the British isles would just be Picts and Celts.

I haven't read the judgement but I imagine there is a heavy dose of context in this case.

Namely, being outside a political conference, being a politician, being surrounded by police security etc.

It's a little different to a politician saying something to a protestor. Stewart was done for racial abuse wasnt he? Im not sure i necessarily agree with that mind, as I think the protestor was a bit harrass-y.

Sheesh. These Tory snowflakes. Unable to cope with robust political comment. Just as bad as Labour Scum. But less antisemitic.

Two protesters were “reasonable” in calling Iain Duncan Smith “Tory scum” outside the Conservative party conference, the high court has ruled, in a rejection of an attempt to overturn their acquittal.

Lord Justice Popplewell and Justice Fordham said no fault in law was made by a senior district judge last November in finding Ruth Wood, 52, and Radical Haslam, 30, not guilty of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent.
So Scum isn't insulting? Hell in a handcart time!
