Yes, some people will look to see what is on the market occasionally. If you’re doing it each day to judge your house against others, then either it is your job, or it is the focus of your life.

I would have thought that rates (not jobserve where the recruiters say "market rates" or "top rates") are a common topic amongst IT professionals? Just saying ...

As a 'Head of', should I compare myself to my team members, or my peers in other 'Head of' roles, who's roles are totally different to mine, with different skills and market rates?

I get lots of repeat work because I'm good at what I do (whatever the hell that is) and I represent good value for money. The shysters who fleece the client on rates and deliver FA tend to (a) not last long and (b) not get repeat work. They get their jobs through mates and the unwary who fall for a sales pitch. I get my work through recommendation.
