Haven't seen he exact location of the shooting, but Nara has a lot of grassy knolls in the park near the golden temple.
Lovely city. The ancient capital of Japan.

    Indeed.

    But the BBC:
    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-62089486
    says:
"Abe suffered two bullet wounds to his neck during the attack, and also suffered damage to his heart, doctors said."

Therefore I wonder whether there was another shooter who actually fired the fatal shots
The guy with the home-made gun was perhaps the "patsy"

    It's Japan not the US.

They don't expect people to pull out guns, so won't instantly react.

Looks like the first bullet might have missed him. And in those 3 seconds the killer calmly walks in closer for a better shot.

You would think his body guards would have been nearby and pulled Abe to the floor in those 3 seconds so he doesn't take a second bullet or pull down the killer.

But 3 seconds is clearly not enough time for anyone to figure out what is going on.

Just shock and confusion after the first bullet was fired.

Since this is now world news, they will need to check if the killer is sane.

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...ter-being-shot

Police said at a press conference Yamagami had said he had a grudge against what was described as a specific organisation he believed Abe to be a part of, but officers could not say whether the organisation actually existed.

    And James Earl Ray.

You need a middle name to be an assassin of any repute.

Which is why Sirhan Sirhan was just the patsy.

To be fair they do make a big thing about John Wilkes Booth and Lee Harvey Oswald.

John Hinckley Jr. did cause a stir

Japan prime minister ‘showing no vital signs’, say emergency services
    https://www.theguardian.com/world/li...-attack-speech

Japanese media have said that the country’s former prime minister, Shinzo Abe, is in a state of cardiopulmonary arrest after apparently being shot during a campaign speech on Friday in western Japan.

National broadcaster NHK has quoted firefighters as saying he has no vital signs.

No updates on Abe’s condition have been given since the incident occurred almost two hours ago. Japanese media often use the term “in a state of heart failure” to describe situations in which the victim is no longer alive but a doctor has yet to sign their death certificate. It is not clear at this point if this is what has happened in Abe’s case.
