Remove the innards from one of these and mount across the hinge.

The sound module looks as though it has a simple two wire switch therefore, any other type of make or break connection will work.

I was looking into this same idea for lockers in my garage, so lights would come on when the door was open. I think what you want is a "Contact Normally Open" switch, if I have my terms right. Or possibly a "push to break".
I got some of these but haven't tested them: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07Z4RR4QV
But I think you might want a push to break microswitch which look a bit like this: https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/microswitches/2900441
You can get larger ones for cupboards, etc: https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/FM143W.html
I didn't look how your sound module works so may have this in verse if it already does this stuff.

I'm sure Cojak would be happy to help you with the soundtrack. Either that or get NAT or WTFH to record some pathetic whimperings

This sound module has a couple of different options. A paper slide, a push button and possibly the easiest for you is a light activated one. Just have the sensor in the box so when it's opened it activates

Might have to do some digging as a quick search only came up with the button and paper slider one. Can't see the light one.

To be fair for something this cool I'd be going for something a bit meatier than a card one. The one above looks like it has a bigger better speaker than the tidly piezo things but personally I'd be looking for a proper decent one to go in a false bottom for maximum roar.

I want my box to growl!
Morning all,
So my current leather project is to make one of these which is a D&D inspired box in which I intend to store our excessive dice collection.
I plan on a few minor cosmetic changes to suit my preferences, but what I would really like is for the box to actually growl upon opening, because everyone needs a growling box
Now my knowledge of electronics is minimal at best, therefore here I am seeking the collective "wisdom" of CUK, or at least a nerd with a clue!
My starting point is one of these sound modules but rather than having to push a button to play the sound I want it to activate when the box is opened.
So my question is, can I replace the play button with a thing that causes a circuit to break (like on a house window alarm system) which then plays the sound?
I need the solution to be simple, I have a soldering iron & can just about use it, I have the space in the lid of the box to store any gubbins.
TYIA for any sensible suggestions, but I accept that this is general & NLady may have a different interpretation of a growing box
