My Mum, in her 70's, has been told that all non-urgent appointments have been cancelled by her Dentist. Unless you are in pain, they won't see you.

I was told by mine they are stopping all but emergency treatment, and they are not allowed to use drills so it will be temporary fillings etc.
They are going to offer remote appointments and will be able to issue prescriptions or send you to specialist dental locations who have the required PPE/training.

Both the wife and I each have a problem tooth we've been trying for ages to get sorted out so fingers crossed. Tooth-pain without treatment won't kill you but it's pretty bad.

I received an email from my dentist practice. In short, this is what they said:

- appointments for minor jobs (dental hygiene, consultations, dental x-rays,....) are still on
- appointments for bigger jobs are cancelled
- emergencies will be treated
- if you're 70 or older and/or have underlying health conditions, all types of appointments cancelled

Dentists have not been told to close. My wife is at work right now. They have not received any official guidance so far.

I suspected as much... I had the start of root canal treatment last Wednesday, the dentist was assuring me that they'll be open throughout the crisis, then got a call on Friday cancelling this Wednesday's treatment

Whoever she spoke to there explicitly said the government had ordered them this morning to close until at least next Monday. I haven’t seen anything in the news about it though; maybe that’s just a line they’re spinning to get people off the phone.
