Aw. Bless.
I asked my French boss when I was working in France for a reference. He looked at me.
- Are you a domestic worker?
- No...
- Well, I like you. You write it, I'll sign it.
In France references were only used for domestic workers. Servant....

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn repeatedly urged people living under a corrupt authoritarian regime not to collaborate—especially not by serving as judges, prosecutors, interrogators, or bureaucrats who enable oppression.
Navalny encouraged the same. Btw, I recommend his autobiography. Surprisingly...

Somebody born in ‘33 was 45 in ‘78.
That's gotta be some sort of record.

I also prefer to find the best person. But I can see that if perhaps the ad discourages certain sectors to apply (because instead of 20% <insert sector here> applying it's 0%), I might not get the best person. Pragmatism rules of course - and if there person you get is 99% as good as the best...

I think the idea is to see if there is any systematic bias in the selection process.
If 50% of applicants come from men, and only 10% of interviewers are male and only 1% of those successful at interview are men that might indicate some kind of bias against men. That kind of stuff....

Finland will shortly be starting its long term solution with a deep geological repository.
There's about 500,000 tonnes of high-level nuclear waste. If all the world’s spent fuel were stacked together, it would fit on a single football field to a depth of around 4 metres. Compare with...

Send a photo. Seems a weird way to do it. You get your passport stamped by border guards, and then immediately groundcrew check your ticket and passport again before allowing you to board? Since the passengers were delayed at the first bit, it doesn't matter if the second bit is immediately after....

Fixed that for you. Even if the next bit after border control is directly the gate, the point still stands. But I've checked the airport plan. It isn't. Map of César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport | Aena...

They were quite literally late at the gate. You go through security, then border controls, then you go to the gate.
Ryanair closed the gate at the normal time. It's usual to close the gate 20-30 minutes before departure. They chose not to wait and you can argue about whether that was a...

Real contractors use their private plane.
But is this really a story? If you're late at the gate, you'll be left behind if the airline figures out it'll cost more to wait than to offload and just go. Waiting for you is great, not so great for any onward flights at the destination. ...
