My last city gig was at a European bank. The development floor was at least 80% Indian they were either extremely careful with their money or were getting paid way less than (at least what used used to be) the going rate.
There were exceptions but in general they were lower calibre developers...

I guess - I am working for the government via a consultancy and a supplier. The rate is crap presumably because everyone in the supply chain is taking a chunk.
I have had zero contact with the consultancy since starting in September.
I'm not complaining because at least I am...

All of my contracts have been over two years in duration...until last September.
I have done three short term contracts since then with breaks in between. Those non billing months really do add up....

Good news - I have just been informed I am a perfect match for this role: Senior Java developer (Chinese speaking)

Sky in Osterley are always after Scala developers. I always decline approaches because the commute is not feasible from Essex or I suspect a lot of other places.
Some genius has decided to advertise the same Scala role but each time located in one of about 40 different towns in the UK....

...and if you are applying to a bank, government etc. they will check your employment history thoroughly so even if you land the role you will fail the background check....

I am still being bombarded by Indian agencies looking for Scala and Spark developers for a banking client.
The only thing that has changed is the rate has dropped from £400 pd inside IR35 to £300 pd.

It matters to everyone. Amazon are an employer of choice and their staff are well regarded. You may be in a contract but there will be another 30k piranhas in the tank when you are looking for another....

I applied to a couple of roles a few years ago and not a sniff. Not even an acknowledgement that I had applied....
