Ordered some stuff from my local garden equipment supplier and was £3 short of free deliver, so I looked at their sale section and saw they had Stihl gloves on offer at £3.50, so I ordered a pair.

And that's not including the student loan (in your day, university was free, and you might even have been given a grant to study)...

Or, children & education cost a lot of money, having immigrants come in when they are already educated, reduces the early years costs, but gets them at earning & tax paying age. That doesn't appeal to xenophobes, because they don't like people who want to work and pay taxes.
The three things that seem to trash some of the non-stick coatings based on my unscientific observation:
1. Using metal utensils - even on the non-stick ones that say they can cope
2. Putting the pan under a grill - heat from above = bad, heat from below = OK.
