Is that tax take per head, or total tax take? In which case it could easily make sense as we probably have way more retirees than under 30s with an income....

A key problem with this is that, as I mentioned earlier, our population is rapidly becoming top-heavy in age and longevity. This is bad in both financial terms - retired citizens will generally pay far less tax than the working population but will require far more use of health and welfare services...

Did you not contact your ex-colleagues / the PM directly to ask questions and show your interest? Unless the job ad is a cover to allow them to recruit internally or outsource cheaply, most PMs would surely rather get someone in who only needs a day or two to get back up to speed....
