            Turns out the expert, after I took him through a debugging session to establish how the framework was behaving, also thought it was a bug, or at least a misfeature

            He's put removal of this brokenness forward as a suggested change to the other core developers on the product, so we might see some action

            In the meantime, he was able to figure out how to get it working, but then again he is one of the creators of it

              The problem was that it worked, but it didn't actually do what was required. So I didn't do any harm by totally breaking it, as it was useless already
