And we have proper pennies, ha'pennies, farthings, thrupenny bits with 12 sides, sixpences, shillings, florins, half crowns, crowns, ten shilling notes, pound notes, and £5 was a fortune.

Get a bag of chips (proper chips - none of your foreign rubbish around then) for 6d (2.5p).

Go to saturday morning cinema for 1/6d (12.5p).
    It's Deja-vu all over again!

I just remembered the sweet machine that took thrupenny bits... can't remember for the life of me what sweets it dispensed though.

            Allo.

Also - Kola Kubes, proper lemon sherbets and those little triangular frozen orange ice pops - I forget the name.

I had a chopper with one of those proper saddle seats and little plastic multicoloured things on the spokes. Followed by a great little BMX.

Before t'days of t'mobile phone too.

            Ah bliss.

I've still maintained the proper attitude with my personal mobile - it's there for my convenience, not the other way round. Soon-to-be-Mrs-RH thinks I'm mad when I leave the phone after a message comes through, or refuse to answer it when I don't feel like taking a call, just because I don't. She practically jumps when her phone beeps.

If I ever get to power I will ban mobile phones except for calls to emergency numbers(including breakdown services).

And if I can't enforce that, anyone who says "I am on the train" when on a train will be shot.

How much are mobile phone blockers? Are they small enough to carry in my pocket?

                  Indeed - 12.5p is half-a-crown

Escaped from the meeting only to be faced with work to do

Still, get it done and I can go to lunch

I have the opposite approach... the work can wait until after lunch...

I worked with a guy with the other attitude... it was not a meeting of minds... since I mull stuff over while eating & can't think properly if I'm hungry.

I'm running the virus scanner part of CA now... it never finds anything, but gives a list of the files it couldn't scan.

                      Very useful.
