You could have opted out but the deadline for that has now passed. That would have prevented HMRC tinkering with your tax code. -
Busy afternoon but I don't feel like much was achieved. Especially as I didn't get done the things I was hoping to do. Maybe tomorrow will be more productive.Comment

Tonight I started reading Heathern by Jack Womack, which may or may not be the next book in the Dryco series after Random Acts of Senseless Violence. William Gibson thinks it's a different one that comes second, but other sources reckon this one is second and the Gibson one is third. And to make things a little less clear, this one was the third to be written, while the Gibson one was first, and Random Acts… was fifth to be written but is, everybody agrees, first
Anyway, it seems OK from the first four chapters, though not as immediately engaging as Random Acts… was. Good enough that I shall persevere with it
Goodnight all

Morning.
Friday <checks clock> yes, Friday.
Dry.
Sunny.
Blue sky.
Cold side of chilly: 15.8 deg, in here, 15 deg in the kitchen, 10 deg in the leanto.
996 mBar, 29.42 in Hg, 747.2 Torr, 14.45 psi, (down from 997 last night), 58% RH (Lidl electric).
Meanwhile on the 26th of February 2020 LondonManc, Churchill, eek, scruff, SimonMac and BR14 popped in, WTFH went for a walk, and there was much discussion of GU10 spotlights that LM wanted to change to LED bulbs instead of halogen, and I recalled writing off a car due to a tyre blowout on the road from Llandarcy to Jersey Marine, it nearly writing me off at the same time.
Walk (abbreviated, towpath) walked in the sunshine. Colder down by the canal out of the sun.
Shopping trip to Morrisons done dusted washed dried sanitised & put away.
Lunch: brunch. Entertainment: The 11:45 thing about the chap dying. Spoiler: he died.
Was thinking to do some more welding practice this afternoon.
Then it poured with rain.
So I decided not to bother.
Down to 995 mBar at 14 o'clock.
Hammering down again.
Tea: chilli con carne with rice etc. Nice enough.
Entertainment: PM.
The news quiz (last ep).
The Nazi Programme: the Channel Islands: all that concrete & it was all for nothing: but better used there than on the Normandy beaches.
Taggart: "Dead Ringer". That was shown in 1985 2 years after the pilot ep.Last edited by DoctorStrangelove; Yesterday, 22:58.When the fun stops, STOP.Comment

Morning denizens
Huge change in circumstances out there today, for it is sunny with an almost completely clear blue sky! This, of course, makes it a bit colder if anything: currently 6°C with enough of a breeze to "feel like" 1°, and an expected high of just 11°. The barometers are back up a little at 986/994mB
Off to do some shopping in a bit

Morning all
Blue sky with occasional lumps of fluff. Currently 9 degrees ('feels like' 7) with a high of 11 expected. Looks like it'll cloud over as the day progresses. Barometer up to 1000 mBar.
Sunrise 07:41; Sunset 17:49 BST.
Yesterday two books arrived: This Way Up by the 'Map Men' and Absolution by Jeff VanderMeer, being the fourth instalment in the Southern Reach trilogy (now renamed to being a series). HWMBO thought it odd that I bought an additional book in a series I professed to not liking very much. My logic was that I didn't like them so much that I stopped reading them, so they can't have been that bad. This lead us to a discussion about Tolkien's and George RR Martin's writing styles which were so terrible that I didn't make it through one of their books. The former was donated to charity and the latter was returned to its owner pretty quickly after borrowing it. Anyway, I'm looking forward to reading something new.

Shopping done!
I went to Big Sainsbury's, but decided I couldn't be bothered with M&S after all
Need to decide what to have for lunch now. I made the usual mistake of getting stuff for lunch next week but nothing for today. I would have got something from the almost-hot food counter, but there isn't one any more
