Turns out today and tomorrow are the longest days! Tonight is the shortest night.

Make of that what you will.

Lunch: a cold chicken leg and a bag of plain crisps

The air conditioner is doing a decent job of keeping it tolerable in here. It was just over 25°C when I got back from shopping but, even as the temperature outside is soaring, it's down to a pleasant 24° in here and not getting any warmer

Meanwhile in the kitchen, the breadmaker has been pressed into service to make what ought to be a crusty white loaf. This is a Sainsbury's bread mix again; the last time I tried this one, it came out a little dense. If this does the same, then I'll either switch to putting the ingredients together myself or maybe use the mix on a manual programme where I can let it rise a bit more or something.

Yes, summer solstice is at 03:42 tomorrow morning!

I'm quite looking forward to a couple of months from now when I'm no longer being half-woken around five in the morning by it getting light outside and immediately going back to sleep. I really should get some new curtains for the bedroom, as the cheap roller blind that was here when I moved in isn't up to the job

I ventured outside, taking a couple of bags of recycling over to the place of the bins. It's far too hot, though the young magpies and various pigeons seemed happy enough

On the way there, I was accosted by a lady from the block opposite. She was wondering whether she was supposed to pay the window cleaners, who are around today with their squeegee on an extremely long stick. I explained that as my windows were too high for even the stick to reach, I'd never considered the matter, but I thought it likely that the service was included in the management charge

Back inside where it's nice and cool now

Tea has been lamb steaks with chips and beans

Once the bread had cooled down, I sliced it and it seems a lot lighter

Not sure if this is due to me adding about 20ml more water than the instructions called for, or it being such a warm day, or both or neither. Bread is a mysterious thing

Oh, and early viewing has been S2E3 of Murder 24/7 in which various people got sent down for the DPD driver killing

And then they switched to the very sad case of an old chap whose wife had just died of cancer at home, who then administered overdoses (unsuccessful ones, obviously) to himself and their severely disabled son

Tonight's major motion picture premiere was Hot Fuzz (2007) which I've been meaning to watch for ages. Very good, though I think Shaun of the Dead was better. But there; I'm fussy that way

And although I intend to rewatch Mad Max: Fury Road soon, I didn't feel it was quite the right thing to follow that, so instead I rewatched Miss Congeniality (2000) which is very good fun

The summer Solstice has happened! I just checked, and the last time I was at Stonehenge for the occasion was twenty years ago, so here's a photo from then:
The rising Sumer Solstice sun bursts through a trilithon at Stonehenge.

Goodnight - or, indeed, good sunrise - all

                      Morning all
Hot & humid with some very high level cloud, which might burn off. Going to head to the beach (again) for a dog walk wince it’s low tide shortly.
…Maybe we ain’t that young anymore
