What a great start to the day - the stuff I've been tasked to work and on and I have just delivered was also being worked on in parralel by the "chief" engineer and he wants me to tidy up his code and ditch mineComment

Can't you tidy up your code and pass it off as his? Or continue developing your code, tidy up his and if he screws up, you can present your solution?
