The second water butt went up on the summerhouse at the weekend, and following today’s drizzle for a couple of hours now has about 5 litres in it. As I went to check if it had water, my glasses fell into it, but I got them out care of one of the sticks that I keep for use some day.
DoctorStrangelove if you’re up at 4am tomorrow, could you take Max out for a walk? A couple of hours should do it. Thanks.

I watched the second part of the Encrochat thing earlier. They're starting to arrest people, but it's all made a bit more complicated by the need not to let them realise their messages are being read, or at least not yet

And I've started reading Artemis by Andy Weir, author of The Martian. This one is based on the Moon, where a small "city" has been constructed in the Sea of Tranquility; our protagonist is a resident thereof, making a living through a combination of legitimate and not quite so legitimate activities

Early night now, with the vague idea that I might actually get around to doing something useful tomorrow

      Goodnight all

Morning all Oh, done that already.
Blue skies and sunshine on the walk and not as humid as it has been of late. 12,000 steps done, but I've also been told that I need to pick figs and then walk to the pub tonight. The Wife will drive there with said figs and then after a refreshing beverage, will drive us home again.

            Morning.

            Tuesday?

            Dry.

            Sunny.

            Windy.

Cool in here at 20.5 deg, 20.5 in the kitchen, 19.5 in the leanto.

1016 mBar, 30 in Hg, 762 Torr, 14.735 psi, (up from 1012 last night), 65% RH (Lidl electric).

Meanwhile on the 5th of February 2020 BR14 had some undyed haddock, NF had some beefburgers from some Scottish butcher which were very nice, LM went down an interweb rabbit hole with HHGTTG, and there was a reference to Floyd, in this case Keith rather than Pink, with added wine for cooking & drinking.

Freecell score: 80%, running average: 83%.

Lunch: brunch. Entertainment: the autism thing. TWATO. The drugs of hallucination thing. Shrooms today.

For some unknown reason some time spent in the "wardrobe" in the bedroom examining all the electronic junk that's piled in there, and has been for up to 25 years or so, plus stuff that's been in there since I retired and has remained unregarded since. What a lot of stuff I've done over the years. What a lot of stuff I've built. Fair amount for the Dragon 32 (serial i/o & what appears to be a parallel i/o), ZX81 talking thing (the GI phoneme thing that's a pain in the arse to program), and some stuff for the Jupiter Ace and an unbuilt ZX81 serial interface.

            Tea: soup etc. Entertainment: PM.

About 15 minutes of that shed thing with Fuzz and the other obnoxious oik: purely because it featured a shedload of nice looking Rover P4 motor cars, with the odd P5 and P6 (and even, horror of horrors, an SD1).

Thing about Rudyard Kipling on Sky Arts. didn't watch much of that. .

Race to Victory on PBS. Just think: Little Boy weighed about 10000 lbs with a yield of about 15kt. The B41, 15 years later, had a yield of 25Mt for the same weight. The "clean" version with a lead tamper was a mere 10Mt.

Foyle's War S6 E2. The rather unenjoyable racial segregation one.

              Morning all

Blue sky, occasional wisps of fluff scurrying past in the stiff breeze. Currently 17 degrees with a high of 21 expected. Barometer up to 1021 mBar.

              Sunrise 05:31; Sunset 20:42 BST

Last night HWMBO and I went for dinner with friends of his who now live in NZ but visit the UK every summer to tour around Europe.

The restaurant we picked does no-corkage Mondays so we "saved" money by bringing our own wine. It's also within walking distance of Harrods and, on exiting from the shiny new Knightsbridge station exit, we were surprised (but not shocked) to see dozens of blacked out mini vans all parked up waiting to take away their Arabian customers. The walk back to the station several hours later was far less busy.

                Morning denizens

No, I haven't had a massive lie-in - I was up about half eight, but got distracted trying to work out what to do first, as a result of which I've done nothing yet beyond having breakfast

It was very sunny earlier though it's clouded over a bit more now, albeit not in a way suggestive of storms or anything. That said, there is apparently a chance of some light showers before lunchtime. Currently 17°C and getting to 20° this afternoon, while the barometers are back up to 1008/1016mB. Still quite breezy out, judging by the shimmy on the big sycamore

Not much done, though I sorted out some dull accounts stuff

Lunch was a chilli & lime chicken bap (wholemeal)

I need to pop round to the chemist's for the monthly haul. Thinking I might continue onwards from there to the kebab shop for tea

And so, as it was foretold, I popped round to the chemists's and then to the kebab shop; and so tea has been kebab and chips, and very nice it was too

Nice sunny evening out, but it's still very breezy. In fact, I walked to the shops because I was a bit wary of taking the bike. I haven't cycled enough round here (in recent years, at least) to know where a sudden gust might come whistling out of a side road and make me wobble into passing cars

I watched the final two parts of C4's EncroChat thing, Operation Dark Phone, this evening. It's very good, and full of useful reminders about the importance of OpSec! I particularly liked the bit where they were able to identify an international drug smuggler because he texted a photo of his dog to his criminal associates, and the tag on its collar had his wife's phone number on it

And then back to reading Artemis, which is really good too! The story's rollicking along now, full of twists and turns and exciting incidents

                      Goodnight all
