    Morning all

Clear blue sky from my vantage point. There's a nice breeze wafting through my office window. Currently 18 degrees with a high of 24 expected. That's my idea of the perfect temperature. Barometer up to 1028 mBar.

    Sunrise 04:50; Sunset 21:21 BST

Stayed in bed a little longer than I ought, pottered about a bit when I finally got up, then had a panic about whether I had a 9 am meeting. It's at 10 am, so I have time to drink my coffee and strip the bed to air it.

HWMBO is on his way back from Madrid, where it has been 38 degrees. He says it was a nice, dry heat and he enjoyed it. He's back there at the end of this month, and I'm joining him, and I'm hoping it's not as hot then (who am I kidding).

      it's a funny old world
I do sometimes wonder what is going wrong for people to be out of work for so long. The longest I've had on the bench where I felt it was a struggle to get work was about 4 months. I agree it's not easy out there but if you've been a contractor for any decent length of time, surely you've built up a network? The majority of my work is from personal contacts and repeat clients; it's only when they have nothing coming up that I go out to the wider market.

I was unemployed for 20 months from 89 to 91. Had one lot ask if I'd been in prison. .

        Morning.

        Thursday.

        Dry.

        Blue sky.

Cool in here at 20.5 deg, 21.5 in the kitchen, 19.5 in the leanto, 16 outside, 16.1 in the salting house.

1021.5 mBar, 30.165 in Hg, 766.2 Torr, 14.82 psi, (up from1018 last night), 64% RH (Lidl electric: curiously it showed 56% for an hour or so last night).

Meanwhile on the 29th of January 2020 I was in with the hoi polloi after picking up yet more litter, LM's protein diagram was still impressing the congregation, BR14 was negged, wattaj and DaveB popped in, along with Brillo.

Washing frenzy in progress: all out on the line now.

        Lunch: brunch.

Trip to the barbers to get shorn. The owner has broken his leg. Again.

Trip to Morrisons for the stuff I forgot two days ago done dusted washed dried sanitised & put away.

Shirts & cottons in off the line: the cottons were iRoned first with the new iRon. Seems to work.

I think the previous iRon lasted at least 15 years, maybe 20, though it went unused from 2014 (parents in care home) to 2019 (me retiring and becoming pissed off with the appearance of un-iRoned shirts and cottons).

Now outside yet another mug of mediocre coffee due to feeling rather thirsty for some reason.

Tea: beans on toast with scrambled egg, and, in a first: two frankfurters. Nice enough.

Entertainment: PM until the irritation level exceeded permitted limits.

Wall to Wall tennis/cricket so no more War Walks. And probably no NCIS either, having watched S2 several times.

        Sky arts: Michael Caine.

Trucking Hell S9 E8: I wonder how much will be repeated this time. . You'd think they'd repeat one with Rory in it. It's not been the same without him. Not stunningly inneresting this week. . Northumbrian one from 22 was the repeat.

        Sky arts: Jack Nicholson.

UFO bollox until I'm tired (or bored) enough to go to bed.

My only permie gig was around then, with a well known grocer.

Just heard that it's official: our SoW for this team ends at the end of July! So that's four weeks from today. It had been a bit uncertain before because of the unknown unknowns around this final migration, but the powers that be are now confident that they're all known so the date has been set

Now I need to decide whether I'm packing it in then or not. Either way, I think I'll tell them I want to take a bit of a break
