    Morning.

    Friday apparently.

    Damp.

    Grey.

    Dreary.

    Sunless.

    Misty.

NotSoChlly in here at 19 deg, 20 deg in the kitchen, 18 in the leanto.

1011 mBar, 29.854 in Hg, 758.3 Torr, 14.6633 psi, (up from 1009 last night), 64% RH (Lidl electric).

Meanwhile on the 13th of January 2020 BR14 popped in, scruff popped in, Brillo popped in, LM had leftovers for tea, I had more chicken, the weather was grim so LM didn't put the bins out and it was making BR14 feel homesick, NF had ribs, then read his book.

Walk (unabbreviated) walked ininitially in the grey gloom, then in sunshine.

During which a gentle maiden driving a Mini Clubman went by leaving a stench of burning rubber. Fortunately she returned & I stopped her: smoke pouring from under the driver's side wheel arch: probably the serpentine belt/water pump/seized alternator (battery light on). All good clean fun on a Friday morning walk.

    Lunch: brunch.

Entertainment: some twat on R4 waffling on about gentle parenting. Gawdelpus all.

    TWATO.

The thing about the Orange Moron at 13:45. The last of those.

More potching in the garage. I lost a grubscrew out of a junction box & by jingo, I found it again. .

The workbench illumination duly installed. The next bit is fitting a switch & connecting it all up to another junction box high up on the wall. It's about as far from Part P as is possible to get. .

Now getting outside a cup of mediocre nonBlend37 coffee. I don't ask for much, simply consistency so the instant crap does the needful doings coffeewise despite two things that would cope with ground coffee and some coffee bags, all of which is far to much of a potch.

Reminder from the dentist: checkup on the 19th of May at 15:30. Oh deep joy.

    Tea: soup etc.

Entertainment: PM waffling endlessly about the coming Reich with Farage & co.

"Calling all cars (1954)". Checking the MOT status: The Jaguar XK was "registered" in 2010 and its MOT ran out in 2012. Well there's a thing.

The News Quiz (election version: no British politics).

BTCC. I remember when this was inneresting.

The Repair Shoppe & The Repair Shoppe+1. interspersed.

Abandoned Engineering. Terezin Fortress Czech republic used as a Jewish ghetto in WWII, served as a waystation to the death camps. Memphis Police Station built by Edward Crump who ran the Democrat political machine in Memphis from the 1930s to 1954, as corrupt as they come. The Ballad of Reading Gaol. Puerto San Julian, Argentina. Where the Argies flew from in 1982 in their successful campaign to get Thatcher reelected.

Red Dwarf. DNA. The one with the vindaloo.

Mysteries from Above: Ancient civilisations: columns on some Greek island that were produced for Rome but rather too late. Viksletta Jelle burial mound, southern Norway. The Dolmen of Guadalperal, in a reservoir on the Tagus river, Spain. Square crop mark in Iraq: turned out to be a lost city at darband i rania pass.

Many years ago one of my colleagues left the keys to his ex PO yellow van on the bonnet overnight. It was still there the next morning. .

It's surprisingly easy to break into cars. Locked myself out a few years ago and the Green Flag guy got in with no damage in a few minutes.

To Big Sainsbury's I did go, so the shopping (such as it was) has been done

Heading back, I decided to take a detour via the hairdressing establishment as the one who cuts my hair adequately had said something about having gone back to working Fridays as well as the usual Thursdays, the only day she's been doing for a couple of years. Luckily the lights at the adjacent junction were red so I was stopped there long enough to be able to get a glimpse of her through the door. With this confirmation of her presence, I decided to stop off for a trim, even though I could have put it off a bit longer without getting any worse than usual

So that's that out of the way for another few months, and now the rest of the long weekend lies before me

I thought I would discuss with my wife about one of the tests I'm having next week. I tried to show a level of knowledge, but really it showed my ignorance.
Me: "So do you think it will be a standard 12 lead ECG next week?"
Her: "Well, a 3 lead is to check if you are dead, and a 5 lead is to check if you're almost dead, but the fact that they called you and you spoke to them means you're not dead"

                So that's me told.

Tea has been an M&S Tomapork™ (which is just a fancy name for a big, thick pork cutlet, basted in a garlic and herb butter) with chips. Very tasty, very filling

And this has been accompanied by E1 of the new series of the thing with the "motorway cops" that never seem to be on a motorway

Tonight's major motion picture premiere was A Complete Unknown (2024), based on the early career of Bob Dylan. I was forewarned by the relevant sections of the Wikipedia entry that the film isn't intended to be biographically or historically accurate, which as we all know is usually the case with "based on" films anyway; but knowing that meant I didn't have to fret when it started deviating from known facts, which it does pretty much from the start, and could enjoy it on its own merits. And what merits they are! If you're not into Dylan, that's fine; watching it isn't compulsory. I am, and I thought it was excellent from start to finish and thoroughly enjoyed it

To follow, first up was a rewatch of Nobody (2021) because it is, as others here present agree, the best film of its kind

And then a rewatch of Reality (2023) which, as it happens, is more closely based on a true story than any other non-documentary film I know of, as the entire script is a transcript of the audio recording made by the FBI as they executed a search warrant on Ms. Winner's home and questioned her about the leak of a classified document concerning Russian interference in that Trump git's first election, said transcript having been entered into the public record at her trial

                      Goodnight all
