Anyone on this forum still involved in a tax avoidance scheme really is asking for disaster.

They need a check up from the neck up, but what's to say you need to be using a TA scheme for the next underhand piece of retro legislation to take money from you. DOTAS today........let them have an inch.......

          I couldn't agree more.

OK, so in the past we all knew it was slightly grey so to speak, but there certainly wasn't the focus on it that there is now. I'm afraid i'll have absolutely no sympathy at all for people who come on this forum in 1-2 years asking how to deal with APN, and followers etc for schemes they're in right now........absolutely none.

We've all done quite well out of the 'entirely legal' process, and we've all enjoyed spending the fruits of that.......so whilst I am on the HMRC hit list like many others, I fairly pragmatic about it all now (I wasn't in the first instance), and think if it's time to pay the fiddler then so be it.

As another poster stated, "most" people on these forums are probably still well paid contractors, so in 3-5 years it'll all be a bad memory.

I'm so bored of the whole thing that I'm half tempted to make my peace with HMRC anyway. At least it'll be on my terms then. I have it on authority that by working with HMRC now, you'll get a much easier ride than waiting for them to come looking for you.

As I've stated a number of times on this forum, I for one believe that sooner or later HMRC will have their pound of flesh. Of course it's unfair etc etc, but I believe that's the way it is. HMRC (and the government) just have too much riding on winning this argument (for all TA, not just Sanzar of course), so whatever sly stroke they pull, be it APN's, followers or whatever else they come up with, they will win "most" cases in the end.........or at the very least your money will be in their account, so they've won anyway.

Again, this is entirely my opinion and not based on any fact at all. In life I'm pretty much an optimist.......but I'm also a realist.

You should be a consultant for HMRC's "behavior management" unit... you'd make a killing!

Everyone wants to "move on"...I am not sure if practically asking the oppressors to put you out of your misery is the dignified way out, though.
                Oh well...to each his own.

Yes, but some people spend their lives worrying about this stuff and actually doing nothing to resolve it, other people deal with it head on, sort it out one way or another, and then move on.

I'm the later, if other people want to worry and fret about what "might" happen, as opposed to dealing with the problem in front of their faces, then that's obviously up to them.

As you say....to each his own

However much I'd like to get it over with, it's a grim choice - go bankrupt now and face homelessness, disruption of kids education, grieving wife and not being able to work - or toughing it out and hoping for a settlement that I could possibly pay by, say, remortgaging the house

So all these people who have moved on and accepted defeat, what scheme/vehicle are you using know ? It seems most of us went down the TA route due to the introduction of IR35 and with that still being very much active, the only option is full PAYE via umbrella or LTD using the 5% expense ruling. Is this really what people are now doing ?
