            Sanzar

There seems to be far more recent posts occurring in the Sanzar Thread, than the threads for other shemes, in this forum.

Does this indicate that that Sanzar is being singled out?, or just that we are lucky enough to be at the top of the pile and the other scheme users will be recieving their assesments in time for Christmas?

Does anyone have an idea of approximately how many employees Sanzar had during the 09/10 10/11 tax years?

Item 3: I didn't think the matter would be "finalised", if the assesment was paid.
Since the figures in the assessment seem to be based on guesswork, I would expect HMRC to ask for more information.

Has anyone on the forum paid the assement and had their tax affairs for that year finalised?

Or, does anyone know how I can make a quick £100K (after tax), so I can pay my assesment and let you know what happens ...... anyone?

They way I understand the process is as follows, can anybody confirm whether this is correct ?

              1) Individual receives discovery assessment from HMRC relating to a specific tax year.

              2) Individual either pays or appeals the assessment.

              3) If the individual pays the assessment in full, then HMRC close that assessment and the matter is finalised.

              4) If the individual appeals, then HMRC can either accept or decline the appeal. If they accept, then the full balance deemed outstanding by HMRC is suspended on appeal......although still attracts interest.

              5) Nothing further happens until HMRC formally respond to the appeal, either asking for more information or by cancelling the assessment.

              6) If HMRC ask for further information then protracted correspondence begin between the individual and HMRC. The onus is on the individual to prove that the scheme in use was valid and a legal form of tax planning.

              7) Eventually HMRC either accept that the assessment is invalid and cancel it, or maintain it's valid and the money is owed.

              8) The individual either then has the choice of paying the assessment and bringing the matter to a close (maybe with some negotiation on actual figures), or informs HMRC that they will go to tribunal and dispute.

              9) If it reaches tribunal, either the individual wins and HMRC cancel the assessment, or HMRC win and issue a closure notice and the individual has to pay in full.

In general am I missing anything here ?

Also, The Certificate Of Tax Deposit Scheme.

Am I correct in thinking that if an individual received a tax assessment for £10k, but then the placed £10k in the tax deposit scheme and told HMRC that is was to be held against the specific assessment, then any interest on the outstanding £10k assessment from that point forward would be stopped ?

              Thanks all

It just means that the posters of other threads are using other methods of communication (which is ok, btw).

Generally a small group of posters get together and things move on from there.

Are we now trusting Contractor Help Desk?

They requested my assessment documentation to produce an appeal letter.

Or am i better off submitting my own from here: http://forums.contractoruk.com/hmrc-...ml#post1698051

I would most certainly NOT provide HMRC with this info, as you're in no way legally obliged to provide them with a copy of your P11D. They have already had this and if they have 'misplaced' it then it's their issue not yours.

As for just paying up, if it's really your call. although don't be surprised if you suddenly then find yourself in receipt of HMRC tax inquiries into anything and everything......as you may well be seen as an easy target, and we all know that HMRC are desperate for money right now, even by questionable means it seems.
Regarding the above I can definitly say my HMRC demands for 2009 / 2010 & 2010 / 2011 must of been based upon the P11D's submitted as the total sum demanded is exact to the penny for both periods.

Can I have PM right please
                    Thanks!

Received notice of assessment for 2010-2011 for contract with SANZAR

                      All

I have just today received a notice of assessment for 2010-2011 for contract with SANZAR from Miss L J Stopp from HMRC which seems to be the normal letter that everyone has received.

I have read the many feeds on SANZAR but has anyone successfully appealed against payment of an assessment from HMRC? I do have an accountant that I have an appointment with tomorrow - but want a few tips as to how to proceed

                      Many thanks

                      L
