I thought WTT could still arrange settlement for me, but I'll be going elsewhere.
I've been saying this for a while now. Webberg starts the whole thing by suggestion a large group and saying he'd happily be on a steering committee the next thing he's Director of a Limited Company and it's WTT or the highway. All the while taking £15 per client per month and trying to spread this out as long as possible to protect his revenue. Not to mention taking all the useful posters away from here there by reducing the ability for a contractor to make an informed decision. It has been a rouse from start to finish. A CTA who builds tax schemes building a group for people who have been hurt by tax schemes...and as soon as another qualified person joins the forum he jumps in in an attempt to safeguard his monopoly.

So tell us Webberg, what's the value add of Big Group? Why should people pay you the best part of 2K to settle for them? Why should they continue to pay other than the 18k per month you're pocketing in fees?

      Interesting bias here.

If you read the Big Group threads, you will see that it was NEVER a group with a steering committee. It was advertised and advised as being a group which required a full time presence to start, operate and use it as a tool towards finding an answer that was not HMRC's "pay or else".

At no time was this a voluntary effort on our behalf.
At no time has anybody been forced to join.
At no time has anybody been penalised for leaving.

Have we been able to control HMRC and the Courts in order to stretch the time period- well obviously we are so feared by HMRC that they are running scared and those Supreme Court Judges all dance to our tune. Get real.

We've deflected users from this forum? Possibly but how can you tell? Our forum contains a lot of things that cannot be said here. Many of our active forum users remain active here.

Prevent you form making an informed decision? Really. You have access to all the same material as we do. We have no secret knowledge or special access to HMRC or anybody else. Your decision can be made by using all the materials available and by going to any sensible adviser.

The word is "ruse" not rouse.

I am a CTA. I have in the past be involved in "tax schemes". Some of those have been challenged. Some have settled. My past is out there for all to see. Perhaps you'd like to offer yours?

How do I have a monopoly? Hundreds of tax advisers and accountants and lawyers. What mystic power do I have to force all contractors to use my services? Perhaps I am in possession of this talent without knowing it.

The poster here I have exchanged a couple of messages with. He has his offering (we have not discussed that) and we have ours (similarly not discussed in detail). We are content that we are not really competing and take a professional approach. If a client prefers one adviser over another, so be it.

      What value is Big Group?

You would have to ask those who joined and are still members. We offer technical knowledge, HMRC news and reaction, a platform for action politically, legally and in terms of routine HMRC enquiries. Many members find that the simple fact of not being alone is a help.

Perhaps I should turn this around and ask what value there is in trying to fight HMRC alone or trying to come to an informed decision alone or just being alone?

Why should I be paid to help settle? This is a choice made by the individual. We do not force people to pay us. They can pay somebody else or not - their choice.

Big Group is voluntary. No penalty for leaving.

I'm really not sure what your issue is. Given that you are unwilling to open up as to your history and why you are so bitter and personally vindictive towards me in particular, I suspect I will never be sure.

Given that your position appears to have nothing to do with helping contractors caught in their present plight and all to do with venting illogical nonsense, I have decided that answering your posts is not a good use of my time and will not be doing so again.

Each to their own. I have replied once before as a registered Big Group member, along with what the benefits of being part of Big Group are. You are of course entitled to your own opinion, but slating a service you have neither used, nor seem to have any intention of using, is of no use to anyone.

People don't have to join Big Group.

People don't have to employ WTT.

And people don't have to read this forum.

Phil, Webberg - a couple of questions if I may:-

            1. If one chooses to settle closed years under CLSO2:-
Can you offset trading losses made in those years? Losses related to stock market trading - not investments but regular trading.

            2. If one chooses to the 2019 DR charge:-
Can we offset a big pension contribution - say for 2019 and prior 3 years, i.e. £160k?

I have decided that this is not my thread and will therefore not respond here.

I wouldn't let one little poster put you off. There are plenty more who appreciate your opinions and the time you spend here.

Id agree with this, I for one appreciate your input as much as anyone else. Plus I don't 'own' this thread as its a thread on an internet forum which is open to all as far as I'm concerned.

To answer the above questions btw....1/Afraid not. A closed year is well....closed I guess. (unless you're HMRC unfortunately!)

2/This is something discussed further back in the thread. Definite answer being sought.

I'm not put off at all but the thread is an opportunity for another tax specialist to have a say and that can only be a healthy thing for all concerned.

My views on the points raised are well known already and there is little to be gained by repeating them. Instead there is value to be gained in hearing whether another agrees or disagrees.

                      Pension

With regards to pension contributions, just remember the tax relief is tapered if income for year is above 150k at a rate of £2 per £1 earned over up to earnings of 210k where the relief is capped at 10k. I'm pretty sure this affects the carry forward years as well. So if you have large loan amounts (greater than 200k) it might not divert as much as you think into pension assuming it's even allowed. However, if loan amounts are around 100k (certainly less than 150k) then it could possibly be a good tactic.
