Do they really think it's discriminatory, or are they just jealous because they want to eat mangled delicious chicken and dressing it up as a religious issue to get what they want?

Supporting the idea that racism should be illegal makes you worse than the racists -by far.

A more rational reaction if you don't like racism would be to avoid doing business with racist people. Surely?

There's no need to get all violent about it.
        Haha, okay princess.

Well the Sikhs are up in arms about it as they are not allowed to eat meat slaughtered in a religious manner. MUslims have been known to plead discrimination until they get a meat that is halal.

But anyways I was testing the water with this one to make the point that we are now using legislation to decide what is discrimination and what is not which I think is bulltulip. Gay adoption being the supreme case

Tell us about the Sikh ritual slaughter controversy.

            Re the gay adoption...

Would you be happy if mixed race couples were legally denied the ability to adopt because someone had decided that mixed race relationships were unnatural or immoral?

It's a hard argument to suggest your gender is as inconsequential as the pigment in your skin, IMO.

Random question since this thread is a little dull - can friends adopt? I don't mean mates, but long-term, committed friends who are not in "a relationship" but live like they are and want to raise a child because they think they'd do a good job.

They did 20 years ago, 5 years ago white couples adopting ethnic babies was bad (and vice versa), we are slowly coming to the realisation that gay adoption is probably a good thing but its going to be a long journey.

I recently had dinner with some otherwise sane, rational, educated people who believe that homosexual marriage is 'wrong' and that homosexual couples deserve none of the rights 'normal' couples do (including adoption).

I made the same point as you did, apparently, I was 'just being pedantic'.

Funnily enough when they insisted that their religion should be granted tax breaks in the US (which have, apparently, just been withdrawn) I asked whether other religions should get the same and if so why not other beliefs such as people who believe they have been abducted etc. Where do we draw the line with people's beliefs influencing which laws apply to them?

Apparently this is 'just being pedantic' too.

I don't know if you can adopt as "friends" rather than a couple, but single people can adopt.

I don't have any issue with gay adoption, either and am quite surprised that so many do. But then again, I've been to children's homes and worked with foster carers and I'm now firmly of the opinion that anyone who can provide a stable and loving atmosphere should be allowed to adopt. I suppose the challenge comes with defining that, which is what makes adoption so incredibly difficult already.

Gay adoption has nothing to do with peoples perception so taking it up that avenue is nothing but straw man debating, gay couples cannot have children as fact, how they are being discriminated against by not giving them children for adoption is therefore ridiculous. But that is the law and if that is the case then the law is wrong on that one and should be considered to be wrong elsewhere in other cases, like this one.

Anyway I am busy today so that be my last post.
