must be special denialist ice.
meanwhile the leader of the expedition continues to claim that the russian cruise ship is an icebreaker. It isn't
he also claimed he was at the foot of the mertz glacier, he was 30 miles away. and that was as close as he got
We have to wait for the investigation to be completed, before we know the full story, but from the facts so far, this guy was/is a buffoon(\__/)

It's alway worth remembering what climate scientists were saying just a few years ago:Originally posted by pjclarke View Post

AGAIN?! REALLY ?!
A 13-year-old piece of pisspoor journalism from the opinion pages gets rolled out one more time. Take a look at what the climate scientist David Viner actually said (the parts in quotes), and what the journalist, who hasn't written on science before or since, conflated these into. No resemblance to what any serious climate scientist or body were saying at the time. (Hint: the words 'in a few years' were added by the journalist, we don't know what timescale Viner was talking about).
ISTR challenging BB for a primary source saying anything like what the Indie reported, c'mon BB, find me something in the scientific literature about the end of snow. ...

'a rare and exciting event'
'our children just arn't going to know what snow is'

The IPCC TAR (http://observatory.ph/resources/IPCC...69.htm#1524123) stated: "Milder winter temperatures will decrease heavy snowstorms"(\__/)

Well, quite. A whole article built around a tiny number of probably out-of-context quotes. Now over a decade old. And it was 'children', not 'our children', so again no timescale can be inferred.
Speaking of quote-mining, your IPCC link is dead, but the quote is from the 2001 IPCC report. The full sentence reads
and it is about ice storms in North America only. Sheesh.Milder winter temperatures will decrease heavy snowstorms but could cause an increase in freezing rain if average daily temperatures fluctuate about the freezing point.
Working Group 1 of the same report projected increased precipitation under greenhouse warming.

How to paint egg on your face...
Are we really led to believe that journalists can't understand simple words....
I love that article...

Yes, we noticed. The gift that keeps on giving. Do you understand what a sub-editor does?I love that article...
I think the frequency with which it gets trotted out, and the inability to find anything contemperaneous saying anything remotely similar may not have quite the effect you're aiming for. But if it gives you some comfort, please carry on citing it.

You're quite right we've got to move on. So here's the latest gem.
From your mates at the Guardian
http://www.drroyspencer.com/2014/01/...t-record-cold/Scientists said the deep freeze gripping the U.S. does not indicate a halt or reversal in global warming trends, either. In fact, it may be a counterintuitive example of global warming in action.

One of the reasons that sort of article keeps getting trotted out is because it is with exactly that kind of rticle that various people tried (fairly successfully) to whip up a level of hysteria about climate change and the politicians decided to fill their taxation boots with.
When these sorts of articles were flying about like snowflakes in a winter storm the warmist science lobby were NOT debunking the articles, they kept quiet and raked in the research grants.
The nett effect of the spin machines which proved to be utter tripe has been a level of cynicism from the people who were never convinced or outright didn't believe it to start off with and the credibility gap simply widens each time the cold bites and the more newsworthy claims like icefree mountains fail to come about.
I've always been thoroughly sceptical, but open minded about the possibility that climate change is at least partly man made, but with the numerous credibility issues around the warmist lobby claims simply make the whole loot look rather absurd. Crying wolf syndrome.Comment
