people do like to win the argument, that is true.Originally posted by d000hg View PostYou and pj are as bad as each other, neither of you cares what's actually true, only about getting people to agree with you by any means available.
And people who look closely at what is going on see shennaigans. They cant mention these, because they look like conspiracy nuts.
Obviously the people in the minority see more shennanigans and get more incensed. which at the moment is the sceptical side of the debate.
so you are right. we have to make sure we dont become 'them'. what we detest(\__/)

Uh-huh. To a first approximation the Arctic is an ocean nearly surrounded by land, as temperatures rise, sea ice, that is, ice floating in the ocean is expected to decrease, which is exactly what has been observed. The Antarctic is exactly the opposite, a landmass covered in ice and snow surrounded by the Southern Ocean. As temperatures rise, the land ice is predicted to decrease, but in the short term, sea ice to increase. Don't take my word for it...global sea ice is at an all-time high for this time of year, breaks all previous records.
That's from a paper by Judith CurryThe observed sea surface temperature in the Southern Ocean shows a substantial warming trend for the second half of the 20th century. Associated with the warming, there has been an enhanced atmospheric hydrological cycle in the Southern Ocean that results in an increase of the Antarctic sea ice for the past three decades through the reduced upward ocean heat transport and increased snowfall...
So increasing sea ice globally, over the short term, is consistent with rising temperatures. The same paper projects a long term decline, however.
Meanwhile, continental ice on Antarctica is declining at around 70bn tonnes/year, contributing to sea level rise, and the Arctic sea ice is close to a record low for this time of the year. Exactly as expected in a warming world. My subconscious is annoying. It's got a mind of its own.Comment

January 1st global sea ice area was 17,932,000 km², which is the highest ever recorded during the month of January.
January 2014 also saw the record number of climate scientists being trapped in summer sea ice
according to the IPCC ,sea ice should be declining. it isn't(\__/)

And here is how that single data point compares with the trend ...January 1st global sea ice area was 17,932,000 km², which is the highest ever recorded during the month of January.

Graphs are from here
Data is from the US National Snow and Ice Data Centre. There's a seasonal cycle in the global extent, clearly. So you need to remove the noise to get to the signal rather than looking at a single day in isolation. That's just nuts.My subconscious is annoying. It's got a mind of its own.Comment

so you are showing a steady increase in Antarctic sea ice.
you are not disputing the january global ice was the highest recorded.
the ipcc said antarctic ice would decline. they said global ice would decline
they have not. so your point is ???(\__/)
